D.E.A.F. on the Family
There are many complications for families with deafness in the home. Special needs apply to each. Hearing parents with deaf children often feel alone. They seek help for their deaf child. They wonder how other parents feel. Deaf parents with hearing children face the complications of rearing a child who will assimilate in a different culture than the parents. The child may be caught between the culture of the Deaf and the culture of the hearing. Parents and children will have internal conflicts when these worlds collide.
It is the D.E.A.F. Coalition's hope that articles in this area will be of interest and assistance to you.
